For some people, puppies are one of the cutest creatures in the whole world. With their fluffy and soft fur, black eyes and endearing yelps, it is very hard to resist their natural charms. However, puppies are not all about cuteness. It is recommended for puppies not to be separated from their mother 8 weeks after birth. Some places even consider selling puppies with age lower than 8 weeks as illegal. In order to maximize your pups’ healthy status, it is advised that you leave them with their mother for about a day or two. After two days, you can probably hold and nurse the newborn pup. At this point, you can now start raising puppies with their mother. However, you need to be careful as their bodies are very delicate and fragile. Aside from this, they are very sensitive to environmental temperature, because their bodies are still immature to effectively regulate their temperature.

During age 5 weeks or more, they become more active. In the blink of an eye, you may be able to see your puppies lapping water off the toilet bowl. It is also common for them to explore places, may it be dirty and hazardous or not. Because of this, they develop parasitic infections (one of the major parasites is the roundworm). Parasites like worms and other protozoans may be present in is stomach. Because of this, it has become a sort of informal rule to de-worm and give diarrhea medicine if the pups develop episodes of loose bowel stools. This is very essential when raising puppies.

Supplements, vitamins and minerals can also be given to your pups. At 9 months, the puppy will be excessively active and will consume too much energy. You need to invest much on energy-giving dog food. Some supplements must be given as capsule, while others can be mixed with their food.

When raising puppies, safety is always a necessity that should not be compromised. Try to foresee all the possible hazards that your puppies may encounter. Do not allow them to move about freely while hazard prone items are just lying around. Try to keep can them in a safer storage. Keep kerosene and other toxic liquid such as battery fluid away from the garage floor as puppies may find a way into the garage, so you need to monitor them constantly. Never leave them in the house with the door locked.
